On September 2, 1990, at about 11:00 in the morning, a group of 256th PC coy soldiers arrived at the house of Armando Listana, a.k.a. 'Bulok,' in Sta. Remedios, Bulan, Sorsogon. The PC troopers were there to arrest Listana because he was suspected of killing a CAFGU member.
The soldiers barged into the home of the Listanas and began searching the house.
When they did not find Armando, they told his wife to let Armando report to the 256th PC HQ in Bulan, Sorsogon. Two hours later the soldiers returned, and not finding Armando, they again left. Armando arrived at their home at about 4:00 in the afternoon; Gilda immediately told him what happened and that the PCs were looking for him. Armando decided to report to the 256th PC coy HQ to clarify things. Gilda advised him to ask barangay officials to accompany him to the headquarters.
Armando and the officials went to the INP station in Bulan and asked to talk to the station commander; unfortunately, the station chief wasn't around, so they talked to another policeman who was a cousin of the station chief. He told them that he cannot help Armando because it was the PC who was looking for him; he then advised them to proceed to the PC headquarters.
The three then went to the house of the barangay captain of Sta. Remedios and asked him to accompany them to the PC camp. When they arrived at the camp, they were let in after they told the guards that they were there with Armando Listana.
On the way to the office of the CO, they met a CAFGU member who held Armando's arm and said, "Ikaw pala si Bulok" (So, you are Bulok).
The barangay officials were let in at the office of the CO. At that point Armando was tied with wires; they heard Armando pleading not to hurt him as he was being kicked and mauled.
The barangay officials were being ignored by the soldiers who left their headquarters. In the morning of September 3 at around 9:00, Gilda went to the PC camp to bring food to Armando. Upon arrival, she asked the guard where Armando was being detained. She was told that Armando and Rodrigo Calupit (another accused of killing the CAFGU) escaped; she was then told to go to the office of the commanding officer, but she was being ignored when she asked around about the fate of Armando. She then left the camp. Armando remains disappeared.
