Cristito Esplana, a resident at Brgy. Tibabo, Pio Duran, Albay, was arrested by the military on October 2, 1992, while in a cockpit arena.

Cristito was with his mother, Tarcila, when he was arrested. His mother asked the military where they were taking his son, and the military men replied that it would just take a few moments and he would be sent home. Cristito was taken to the nearby military detachment at Cuyaoyao.

Cristito's mother followed them at the detachment together with the barangay captain of Brgy. Agol, Pio Duran, Albay, but when they arrived at the detachment, the military told them that Cristito was already sent on his way home. Tarcila could not do anything but cry because he was not at home. She called on the wife and children of Cristito and told them that he was taken by the military.  They continued to search for him and even asked for the help of the CHR and radio stations, but he could not be found.

Relatives told them to stop looking for Cristito, as they might suffer the same fate because the military suspects them to be members of the NPA.
