Elizabeth "Loi" Magbanua, is a longtime activist and defender of workers' and women's rights. In the 1980s, she worked in an electronics factory where she became a union member. When the factory closed in 1991, she decided to dedicate her full time to activism and joined the Women's Workers' Movement GABRIELA to help organize women workers.
Magbanua was last seen with Alipio "Ador" Juat on May 3 in Barangay Punturin, Valenzuela City, after attending a meeting related to their community organizing work. According to Juat's son, he spoke to his father on May 28, when he said that he and Magbanua were together when they were arrested. They were forced to ride in different vehicles. Whenever Juat asked about Magbanua's condition, the only answer that state forces would give him was "Don't bother with that anymore."
