Emerlinda de Mesa was reportedly arrested by members of the Civilian Home Defense Force headed by Ceriaco Inocentes.

According to Tomasa de Mesa, mother of the victim, her daughter was inside the house of their distant relative known as "Tisay Grafil" when the abduction happened. She and her daughter, together with the husband of Tisay Grafil, were forcibly taken away by the group and brought to the center of the town, and from there, the two innocent victims were executed by their captors.

After the alleged shooting the incident was immediately reported to Tomasa de Mesa by civilians who were eyewitnesses to the said execution. One of them is the sister of Tomasa de Mesa (Margarita Elma de Mesa).

The family tried to recover the remains of Emerlinda de Mesa but failed to do so, for they were allegedly brought to Tabogon Detachment, Tagkawayanan, Quezon, and then allegedly brought to Lucena, Quezon, but again they failed to find the remains.

Since it was martial law, the family of Tomasa de Mesa advised Tomasa not to look any further because they were fearing for the life of Tomasa de Mesa since she and her husband were the target of the operation.

The family believed that the sudden disappearance of Emerlinda de Mesa was in connection to Emerlinda's parents coming out from hiding. The military and the CHDF operatives tag Tomasa de Mesa and her husband as all members of the New People's Army.

The whereabouts of Emerlinda de Mesa are unknown up to this day.
