On May 28, 1989, after attending the funeral of a KPML leader, Reynaldo Somono was last seen getting off a bus along Dagupan Street in Tutuban, Divisoria, Manila, wearing a black T-shirt, denim pants and white rubber shoes. He had reportedly been under surveillance by police and military authorities due to his involvement in urban poor organizing,  He never returned home and had not been seen since, leading to suspicions that he was forcibly disappeared by state agents.
