Sam Clemente was driving his motorcycle near the gate of Capitol Gardens Subdivision in Tarlac City when he was blocked by a green Mitsubishi L300 van on February 6, 2007.  Three men alighted from the van, poked a gun at his side, handcuffed him, and forced him into their vehicle. One of them drove away using Clemente's motorcycle.  Families and relatives of Clemente suspected the military was involved in the abduction because he is a former martial law detainee.  But the military's Northern Luzon Command, which is based at Camp Servillano Aquino in Central Luzon, said that the military has no policy of abducting former or active political activists.  Senior Supt. Nicanor Bartolome, Tarlac provincial police director, has formed a task force to investigate Clemente's abduction.  Clemente, a political science graduate of Far Eastern University, has two children.  In 1972 when the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos declared martial law, Clemente was arrested with thousands of political activists and Marcos critics. He was detained in Baguio City for three months and later transferred to Camp Olivas in Pampanga. He was released in December that year.   As of this writing, the whereabouts of Sam Clemente are still unknown.
